Privacy Policy

Last updated: 19 June 2026 · Version 1.0

Clearo is built honest, and that includes how we handle your data. This policy explains what we collect, why, who we share it with, and the rights you have wherever you live. We collect as little as we can, we never sell your data, and you can export or delete it at any time.

This document is provided for transparency and is not legal advice. It is reviewed by us in good faith against the laws below; if anything here conflicts with a mandatory right you have under your local law, that local law prevails.

1. Who we are

Clearo is a product of Wireside Studios Ltd, a company registered in England & Wales (company number 17139269). For the purposes of data-protection law, Wireside Studios Ltd is the data controller for personal data processed through the Clearo app and website.

  • Registered office: [REGISTERED OFFICE ADDRESS] (on public record at Companies House).
  • Privacy contact: hello@getclearo.com (or hello@wiresidestudios.com).
  • EU/EEA representative (GDPR Art. 27): not yet appointed. An EEA-based representative will be named here before Clearo is offered to individuals in the EU/EEA.

2. Scope & minimum age

This policy covers the Clearo iOS app and the getclearo.com website. Clearo is intended for people aged 16 and over. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.

3. Data we collect

You can use Clearo with an account or, on some devices, in a local-only "without an account" mode. What we hold depends on how you use it:

CategoryExamples
AccountEmail address, or a private relay address if you use Sign in with Apple. (No password is ever stored by us in readable form.)
Profile & health inputs (special-category)Height, weight, date of birth/age, biological sex, activity level, goals, and the focus areas you choose (e.g. heart, blood sugar). These describe your health, so we treat them as sensitive.
Your logsFood entries, weigh-ins, saved meals, and the photos you take of meals or labels.
Device & diagnosticsApp version, device type/OS, and crash/error diagnostics. We do not collect advertising identifiers.
Subscription statusWhether you have an active Clearo Pro subscription. Payments are handled by Apple; we never receive your card details.

4. How & why we use it, and our legal bases

We use your data only to run Clearo for you:

  • To create and secure your account and sync your plan and log across your devices.
  • To calculate your plan and targets, and to read the nutrition from the foods you log.
  • To keep the app working, fix bugs, and prevent abuse.
  • To respond to your support requests.

Where UK/EU data-protection law applies, our legal bases are: performance of a contract (running the service you asked for), our legitimate interests (security, debugging, preventing abuse), legal obligation where applicable, and, for your health-related data, your explicit consent (GDPR Article 9), which you give by entering that data and which you can withdraw at any time by editing or deleting it, or by deleting your account.

We do not sell your personal data, we do not use it for third-party advertising, and we do not make decisions about you that produce legal or similarly significant effects using solely automated processing.

5. AI scanning & food lookups

Some features send data to specialist providers so we can read your food:

  • Label & plate photos you choose to scan are sent, through our secure backend, to Google (Gemini) to extract the nutrition values. The photo and the values are returned to you; we do not use your photos to train AI models.
  • Barcodes you scan are sent to Open Food Facts, a public, open food database, to look up the product. Only the barcode number is sent.

AI-derived figures are clearly marked as estimates in the app and may be wrong; see our Terms.

6. Apple Health (HealthKit)

If you connect Apple Health, Clearo reads (read-only, with your permission) data such as activity, weight, height and age to improve your plan. We use this data only to provide the features you asked for. Consistent with Apple's rules, we never use Health data for advertising or marketing, and we never sell it. You can revoke access at any time in the iOS Health app.

7. Who we share your data with

We share data only with the service providers ("processors") that help us run Clearo, under contracts that require them to protect it:

We may also disclose data if required by law, or to protect our rights and the safety of users.

8. International transfers

Your account data is hosted in the European Union (Ireland). Where a provider processes data outside your region (for example, some US-based services above), we rely on appropriate safeguards, such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses and the UK International Data Transfer Addendum, to protect it.

9. Retention & deletion

We keep your data for as long as your account exists. You can export your full food and weight logs as CSV at any time, and you can delete your account from within the app, which erases your personal data from our systems (backups are purged on a rolling basis). Local-only data stays on your device until you delete the app.

10. Security

Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and at rest, access is restricted and authenticated, and we follow the principle of least privilege. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your data and will notify you and the relevant regulator of a breach where the law requires.

11. Your rights, by region

United Kingdom & European Economic Area (UK GDPR / EU GDPR)

You have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict or object to processing, to data portability, and to withdraw consent at any time. To exercise these, email hello@getclearo.com. We do not sell or share your personal information, and we do not offer financial incentives for it. You may use an authorized agent. To make a request, email hello@getclearo.com.

Consumer health data. Under laws such as Washington's My Health My Data Act and Nevada's SB370, your health-related data (the profile/health inputs and logs above) is collected and used only to provide Clearo, with your consent; we do not sell it and do not share it for advertising. You may withdraw consent and request deletion of your consumer health data at the contact above. For full detail, see our dedicated Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy.

If you are in the United Arab Emirates, the UAE Personal Data Protection Law (Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021) gives you rights of access, correction, deletion, restriction and objection, and to withdraw consent. Comparable rights apply under the Saudi PDPL and other regional laws. Contact hello@getclearo.com to exercise them.

Africa

If you are in South Africa (POPIA), Nigeria (NDPA), Kenya (Data Protection Act), Egypt (PDPL) or other African jurisdictions, you have rights of access, correction, deletion and objection, and may complain to your national data-protection authority (for example, South Africa's Information Regulator or Nigeria's NDPC). Contact us at hello@getclearo.com.
